This page details military structure of Grey Knights forces including Detachments, Formations and Apocalypse Formations.

Detachments


Nemesis Strike Force

Codex: Grey Knights details a unique Detachment – the Nemesis Strike Force – that reflects a Grey Knight vanguard assault formation dispatched to quell a daemonic incursion or as a final sanction upon a world. This follows all the Detachment rules presented in Warhammer 40,000: The Rules.


RESTRICTIONS
All units in this Detachment must have the Grey Knights Faction (or have no Faction).

COMMAND BENEFITS
Brotherhood Commander: If this Detachment is chosen as your Primary Detachment, you can re-roll the result when rolling on the Warlord Traits table in Codex: Grey Knights.

Rites of Teleportation: Instead of making Reserve Rolls from the start of your turn two, you can make Reserve Rolls for any unit in this Detachment that is placed in Deep Strike Reserve from the start of your turn one. These units will arrive from Deep Strike Reserve on turn one on the roll of 3+. In addition, all units from this Detachment can both Run and Shoot, in any order, in the same turn that they arrive from Deep Strike Reserve.

Daemonhunter Strike Force


RESTRICTIONS
All units from this Detachment must have the Grey Knights Faction.

These units will arrive from Deep Strike Reserve on turn one on the roll of 3+. In addition, all units from this Detachment can both Run and Shoot, in any order, in the same turn that they arrive from Deep Strike Reserve.

Formations


Grey Knights Brotherhood

RESTRICTIONS
None.
SPECIAL RULES
Brotherhood Commander: If this Formation is chosen as your Primary Detachment, you can re-roll the result when rolling on the Warlord Traits table in Codex: Grey Knights.

Psychic Brotherhood: As long as this Formation’s Grand Master is alive, all units in this Formation successfully harness Warp Charge on D6 results of 3+ when taking Psychic tests.

These units will arrive from Deep Strike Reserve on turn one on the roll of 3+. Bulwark of Purity

FORMATION
 • 1 Librarian
 • 2 units of Paladins
 • 2 units of Grey Knight Terminators
RESTRICTIONS
The Librarian must have the Grey Knights Faction, and must wear Terminator armour. No unit in this Formation can take a Dedicated Transport.
SPECIAL RULES
Aura of Purity: While three or more units from this Formation are on the battlefield, if any unit from this Formation successfully manifests the Banishment psychic power, all units with the Daemon special rule within 12" of any unit from this Formation are affected.

Bulwark Formation: While three or more units from this Formation are on the battlefield, you can add 1 to the result when making Deny the Witch tests.

Triumvirate of the Primarch

RESTRICTIONS
None.
SPECIAL RULES
Inspiring Presence: Whilst Grand Master Voldus and Roboute Guilliman are on the battlefield, all friendly units with the Armies of the Imperium Faction have the Stubborn special rule.

Touched by Fate: You can re-roll one failed saving throw each turn for each model from this Formation.

Apocalypse Formations


Brothers of the Flame

APOCALYPSE FORMATION
 • 1 Castellan Crowe
 • 5 Purifier Squads
RESTRICTIONS
Each Purifier Squad must contain 10 models. They cannot split into Combat Squads, and may not have Dedicated Transports.

SPECIAL RULES
Tide of Cleansing Flame: The formation may make an additional attack in each Shooting phase with the profile given below. Nominate Crowe or one of the Knights of the Flame - this is the model that makes the attack.

Dreadknight Brethren

SPECIAL RULES
Unstoppable Force: At the beginning of the game, pick one model in the formation. That model and all other models from the formation within 12" of it have the Shred special rule.

Extermination Force

APOCALYPSE FORMATION
 • 1 Nemesis Dreadknight
 • 3-5 Stormraven Gunships
RESTRICTIONS
The Nemesis Dreadknight must have a heavy psycannon. The Stormraven Gunships must have psybolt ammunition.
TYPE
 • Battle Formation

SPECIAL RULES
Marked for Extermination: Each turn, the Nemesis Dreadknight can fire a special tracker round with the profile given below, instead of firing its weapons normally.

Psychic Spoor: A unit hit by this shot is marked for the remainder of the battle. A marked unit is hit automatically by shots from the formation’s Stormraven Gunships (Blast weapons do not scatter). Additionally, marked units with the Daemon special rule halve their Toughness and/or Armour Values against hits from both mindstrike missiles and psybolt ammunition.
