The Space Marines army list is split into following sections: Elites, Fast Attack, Heavy Support, HQ, Lords of War, Special and Troops. All of the squads, vehicles and characters in the army are placed into one of these categories depending upon their role on the battlefield. Each model is also given a points value, which varies depending on how effective that model is in battle.

Before you choose an army, you will need to agree with your opponent upon the type of game you are going to play and the maximum total number of points each of you will spend. Then you can proceed to pick your army following the guidelines given in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook.

Wargear List

These lists detail the points values of various items of wargear available to units in your army. Many unit entries in the army list that follows may include wargear options from one or more of these lists - in each instance, the army list entry will tell you (in bold) exactly which of these lists you may use.

Melee Weapons

A model may replace his boltgun, bolt pistol and/or Melee weapon with one of the following:

Chainsword free
Lightning claw 15 pts
Power weapon 15 pts
Power fist 25 pts
Thunder hammer 30 pts

Ranged Weapons

A model may replace his boltgun, bolt pistol and/or Melee weapon with one of the following:

Plasma pistol 15 pts
1 May not be taken by Legion of the Damned.

Terminator Weapons

A model wearing Terminator armour may replace his storm bolter with one of the following:

Combi-flamer, -melta or -plasma 5 pts
Lightning claw 10 pts
Thunder hammer 25 pts

A model wearing Terminator armour may replace his power weapon with one of the following:

Lightning claw 5 pts
Storm shield 5 pts
Power fist 10 pts
Chainfist 15 pts
Thunder hammer 15 pts

Heavy Weapons

A model may replace his boltgun with one of the following:

Heavy bolter 10 pts

Dreadnought Weapons

A model may replace its multi-melta with one of the following:

Chapter Relics

Only one of each Chapter Relic may be taken per army. A model may replace one weapon with one of the following:

Macro-cannon Aquila Strongpoint

Macro-cannon Aquila Strongpoints are massive fortifications, often used as bastions in Imperial defensive battle lines. Each consists of a munitions silo topped with a large turret that houses the huge macro-cannon that gives the strongpoint its name. The munitions silo allows the Aquila macro-cannon to fire special quake shells, each of which measures several feet in length and has a powerful charge that causes it to reach hyper-sonic velocity when it is fired. Any skyborne machine caught in the path of this devastating weapon is brought crashing to the ground in short order, and flying xenos creatures are sent screeching from the skies as their flesh is torn apart by the sheer power of the sonic vibrations it emits.
